The various application scenarios for the parameters listed in the table are as follows:

  • 1.BOD removal, partial:
When used in the pretreatment of other biological treatment technologies, MBBR can be designed to operate under extremely high organic loading, which can remove a large amount of BOD (Biochemical Oxygen Demand) within a small space, thereby reducing the burden on subsequent systems. Nevertheless, the BOD removal rate of MBBR is only about 60-70% during high-load operation.
  • 2.Prenitrification:
Nitrification needs to be at very low concentrations of BOD to achieve a better effect. Therefore, if MBBR is applied to the BOD removal before the nitrification tank, it can be operated under lower area loading.
  • 3.Predenitrification:
These are the design values that use the BOD in the influent wastewater as the carbon source required for denitrification in the A/O process.
  • 4.Postdenitrification:
These are the design values that use additional organic matters as the carbon source required for denitrification in the reaction tank after nitrification.
